WHAT IS
BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic (and sometimes medical) procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It removes or repositions excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle to create a fresher, more rested look.

Who is it for?
β€’ Droopy or heavy upper eyelids
β€’ Under-eye bags or puffiness
β€’ Loose or crepey eyelid skin
β€’ Tired, aged appearance around the eyes
β€’ In some cases, impaired vision due to excess upper-lid skin

THE PROCEDURE

β€’ Anaesthesia: Local with sedation or general
β€’ Duration: 1–2 hours
β€’ Hospital stay: day case or 1 night if require
β€’ Pain level: Mild–moderate, well controlled with medication

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Days 1–3
β€’ Swelling, bruising, tightness
β€’ Cold compresses recommended

Days 5–7
β€’ Stitches removed (if external)
β€’ Bruising starts to fade

Days 10–14
β€’ Most swelling/bruising gone
β€’ Can return to work & social activities

Weeks 4–6
β€’ Final results settle
β€’ Scars soften and fade

YOUR TREATMENT PLAN

Upper Blepharoplasty (Upper Eyelid Surgery): Removal of excess skin, muscle, and/or fat from the upper eyelids. Corrects droopy eyelids, reduces heaviness, and restores a more youthful eye appearance. Incisions placed in the natural eyelid crease for minimal visible scarring. Lower Blepharoplasty (Lower Eyelid Surgery): Removal or repositioning of excess fat and skin from the lower eyelids. Corrects puffiness (“eye bags”), smooths under-eye hollows, and reduces sagging. Incisions typically placed just beneath the lash line or inside the eyelid for hidden scars.

Recovery Plan

Hospital Stay: Day case or overnight if needed. Bruising & Swelling: Most noticeable in the first 7-10 days, gradually improving. Downtime: Light activities may resume after 1 week; full recovery with exercise in 3-4 weeks. Supportive Care: Cold compresses, head elevation, and prescribed medications for swelling and discomfort. Follow-Up: Regular check-ups to ensure proper healing.

Expected Benefits

Brighter, more refreshed eye appearance. Reduction of puffiness, bags, and sagging skin. Smoother, firmer skin under the eyes. Natural rejuvenation of the upper and lower eyelids.

Final Note

Upper and lower eyelid surgery together will rejuvenate the eyes, giving a brighter, more youthful look while maintaining a natural appearance.

POST-SURGERY
INSTRUCTIONS

Immediately After Surgery
Mild swelling, bruising, tightness, and dryness are normal. Use cold compresses for 10–15 minutes every hour while awake for the first 48 hours. Keep your head elevated (even while sleeping) for the first 3–5 days.
Eye Care
Do not rub or touch your eyes. Clean the eyelid area gently with sterile gauze if advised. Avoid contact lenses for at least 10–14 days or until your doctor allows.
Activities
Avoid heavy lifting, bending, strenuous exercise, and swimming for 2–3 weeks. Avoid smoking and alcohol as they can delay healing.
Hygiene & Lifestyle
Avoid makeup around the eyes for 10–14 days. Wear sunglasses when outdoors to protect from sun and wind. Avoid direct sun exposure; use sun protection once healed.
Stitches
Dissolvable stitches will disappear on their own.
Healing Timeline
Most swelling and bruising improve within 4–8 days. Final results may take several weeks to fully settle. (3-4 months )
